When you think of a name like Bella Organic Farms, you may think of a nice, calm family owned farm that may host some fall events. The true events that happened after 7 p.m. at this nice, peaceful family farm is something truly terrifying.
These day time events are very fun for the whole family. They offer events such as a multiple acre corn maze that your family, friends, and you try and find the way out of. The corn maze writes something out with the design through the corn. This year’s theme is is teacher appreciation with the maze outlined to say “Thank you teachers!” Bella Organic Farms is family run, with many fall attractions, not just corn mazes. There is the seasonal farm that offers market, u-pick, pumpkin patch, winery, cidery, and a cafe on Sauvie Island in Portland, OR. They offer a corn maze in the fall, and haunted corn maze, sunflower fields and u-cut in Aug/Sept, and an Easter event during Easter weekend. The total amount of acres is over 200, spread throughout Sauvie Island, and Clackamas County, Oregon. That’s just some background to understand what this farm is, does, and how innocent it sounds as a nice family farm. Then, after dark, 7-10 p.m., true fear is struck onto innocent people who thought it would be a cute corn maze for their family to attend.
The Haunted Corn Maze is considered one of Oregon’s scariest attractions for Halloween time. The Corn Maze on average takes about an hour to complete, with the entire time being filled with scare actors jumping from behind the corn husks, little buildings with disorienting lights and colors, and walls to hide the actors so they can jump out and scare you. The Maze is so scary that they recommend kids under six do not attend due to the scares that occur during the Maze run. My group had eight people to go through the Maze, and the combination of disorienting lights, darkness outside of the tiny buildings, constant fear and worry of someone jumping from behind the corn husks, the distant sound of running chainsaws, and blood curdling screams was enough to make all of us realize, this is serious. Personally, hearing everything they offered other than this made me doubt how scary this could truly be, and were the reviews really telling the truth? In the first few minutes of just trying to enter I knew they were legit. The aesthetic is really a cherry on top of everything: dark, cold, rainy, huge, and the distant screams really all add to the whole experience. When our group had made it to the previously mentioned chainsaws, chaos broke loose. The group was split up, one had fallen, others were running, terrified in fear, and yet only one way to go wasn’t a dead end. My younger brother had fallen, and tried to roll away in the mud just to try and escape it just because of how scared he was. The actors will also pick up on names. Multiple times they started screaming names of people in our group to really mess with us psychologically, while other times they would follow you to send you into another scare. The name, Bella Organic Farms, sounds so nice and innocent, but this Haunted Corn Maze was not.
All in all, if you want to have a big group of people do something in the fall and Halloween spirit, this place is an amazing place to go, and for sure lives up to any review you see, from the non scary events to the insanely scary events. The pricing is $30-$45 per person, and open Fridays and Saturdays, all the way through the end of October.
