On November 16th, 2023, at 7 pm, an excited crowd streamed into the OCHS Auditorium to watch the opening night of Mean Girls. They were on the edge of their seats, ecstatic to see how this musical was going to play out.
Before the show begins, the audience can see two walls, with projections of pages from the “Burn Book.” Every couple of minutes, the images change to show the different pages. The show opens with “A Cautionary Tale”, sung by Damian and Janis (played by Will Corwin and Lilly Moyes), a song preparing the very enthusiastic audience for the many events ahead.
After that everything was a joyful movement of colors. From sad and emotional “What’s Wrong With Me?” to upbeat and fun “Whose House is This?”, straight into the chaos of “World Burn”, the audience was instantly captivated. The stage design with words of the “Burn Book” painted on the stage only added to the feel of the show. The crowd loved all the jokes and snide remarks along with the plastic’s first entrance. In the end, as the cast said their final remarks, the crowd rose to their feet in a smattering of rambunctious applause, following the bowing of the cast with their cheers. Everyone in the cast and crew had worked very hard, and the audience definitely thought it showed.
