On the 11th, Keaton Moore, a senior at OCHS, broke the 100 meter dash record in a track meet.

This is a record that has stood unbeaten for eight years. But how did he do it?

His predecessor, Riker Daniels, broke the record in 2017 by running 10.66 seconds. Moore broke it by running 10.63.

“We thought that record would stand a lot longer than it did, but then Keaton came along,” Head coach for boys varsity, Mr Thygeson said. Moore has been breaking records for years now.

Moore has been on track since he was a freshman and has been training for a long time. Many people have seen him soar through track over time.
“He also already has his school short relay record and his 4 by 2 record,” Mr Robinson, the sprints and relays coach said. “To have these records behind him, he is on the road to breaking more.”

Moore is currently number one in the state for track. At the point he is at right now, he will be able to take this all the way to college and maybe even further.

“Ever since my first time seeing that record my freshman year, I knew that would be my long term goal even if it didn’t seem possible at that time,” Moore said. It seems like setting these goals for himself is what pushed him to that final accomplishment.

Riker Moore is still known as a legend years after he graduated. Moore will more than likely go on to be the next legend. His skills, determination, and dedication will go on to inspire many of his fellow athletes.

“We have a really good sophomore Colin Smith, who is running about the same kind of times that Keaton was running when he was a sophomore, if not a little bit faster,” Mr Thygeson also said.

Smith looks up to Moore and he admires his will. His coaches believe that Smith is on his way up the road.

“Keaton set the foundation for me. Now I just have to put the work in and trust the process my coaches have planned out for me,” He said. Moore goes on to inspire and help out his peers.

Keaton Moore is a very determined and hard working athlete, who will no doubt become a name the OCHS track and field team will remember for a long time.
