“O-U-T, OUT!” The freshmen class cheered out in support of the juniors class in the 2025 – 2026 Macho Volleyball competition. The Oregon City High School senior and junior class face off against each other to find out who will win this year’s annual class competition in the final set of the game.
The Oregon City High School Macho Volleyball competition was held in the school’s main gym on November 13, 2025, with student Lola Malloy and Addy Hopwood of the Junior class, both serving as the coaches. In the senior class, Allie Oliver and Joy Shamrell both served as the coach for their respective class, alongside Erica and Tiff Traver acting as refs for the games.
“The freshmen class were great, the rest of classes had not much participation,” junior Riley Bungi said, as she spoke about the cheering and roaring of classes, and was one of the many students who came to watch the game that night. She also said that she expected the juniors to dominate. Freshmen student Aniya Chaa remarked that the game was really hyped and that she had fun.
The first game of the night consisted of the sophomore class going against the junior class, which resulted in the upperclassmen winning both sets. “I was disappointed,” a player on the sophomore team, Ethan Geroux said after the game. “I was expecting good competition and to have some fun, it was fun, but still” In the other court was the seniors against the freshman, in which the seniors won the first set which brought their game to a second set, with the score being neck to neck, ending in favor of the seniors. “I was not scared of the seniors, I was expecting to win our first game.” said Jorven Solaita, one of the freshmen players. He later said that if his team had better communication and played as a team they could have done better.
As a result, the class of 2026 and 2027 would end up having to compete against one another in the finals. “A game like this is always so rowdy” Erica said before the final game begins to set in motion. In the first set the juniors took home the win with a score of 25 – 13. The second set came, in which the senior took the W with a close score of 18 – 25 bringing the game to its third and final set of the night.“I feel like I don’t say words a lot during the game” Malloy remarks “I just make noise and pace” With a game so close and head to head pressure begins to arise, even for the coaches. Players being subbed in and out and the student sections cheering for each other, the final set began to reach its climax.
Eli Hopkins, one of the junior players, says that he expected to win, going into the game. He said that it felt great scoring because he had great energy with his team. With the score being tied the juniors and seniors seem to be neck and neck.
Senior student, Alijah Scott, wins his class points with a heavy spike, not once but twice in that set, with the senior class acing the juniors with their serves.
“I really was expecting- I was actually surprised that they (seniors) beat the freshmen” Said one of the junior players, Alarion Scott. He also remarked that he was ready to put in the work at the beginning of the night, in which he did just that, racking up points with some assists from other players that night.
The score was 14 – 9 in favor of the juniors.
At the final set of the night, player 11 of the junior class, Kasen Saffer served the ball over which results in the senior class sending the ball back, giving the Juniors a chance ball. Where player, Eli Hopkins jumps and slams the ball back to the seniors, settling the score to 15 – 9, with the juniors taking home the title as winners in the boys Macho Volleyball game.
Madden Myers, President of the junior class said, “It wasn’t a surprise, I would have expected nothing less from the juniors, and I can’t wait to see them keep doing stuff like that as we go throughout the year” when asked what he thought when his class won.
The final score of the night and results of the games are: at last place are the Sophomores, losing against the freshmen and juniors. At third place were the freshman, losing against the juniors then getting a well deserved win against the sophomores. Second place was the seniors, winning against the freshmen, then losing to the juniors in the finale. Then in 1st place was the junior class after beating the sophomores, and a well deserved victory against the seniors in that night’s finale.
