Our Cross Country Teams Achievement

This year’s 2025 cross-country season set more school records and won more races. Throughout the season, the boys’ freshmen and junior 5k records were broken, and the boys’ all-time 3-mile record was broken. And on the girls’ side, Oliva Beaudin broke the girls’ all-time 3-mile and 5k record. “It’s pretty amazing to achieve all this and just remember if you work hard, it pays off,” Beaudin said.

Oregon City at Districts and State

Oregon City had a great showing at the district championship. On the JV side, Tiernan Arnett found a spot, placing in the top 10 in the league. And on our Varsity teams, we had 3 runners who qualified for the state championship race: Hunter Mckenzie, Olivia Beaudin, and Grace Carrillo. Mckenzie ended up placing 46th in the state, and the girls placed 21st and 40th in the state. “It was alright, but there’s more to come next year,” Mckenzie said.

Incredible Inspiration and improvements this Season

The day before the official season started, team captain James Conway dislocated his knee, taking him out for the season. It may not have been the way he wanted it to end, but he was still acknowledged. At this year’s cross-country awards night, James Conway and Lilia Conrad were voted most inspirational, making it his second year in a row of getting the award. “It feels great to be voted this high of an honor. I’m very humbled to be voted twice,” Conway said.

Incredible improvements have also been made this season, so choosing the most improved could be challenging. But the award went to Loren Cushing and Ariana Booker. “This is well deserving,” said the Head Coach of Cross Country, Brandon Lee. And indeed it was, as this was just Cushing’s second year doing cross country, and he was already a top JV runner. “It feels great, I’m so thankful for the support from the team and how they thought I made the most improvement,” Cushing said.

Rookie Sensations this Season

Oregon City Cross Country has had many returning runners come back to display more great efforts. But the team also had lots of first-year runners who were able to contribute to the team’s success over the season. The rookies of the year were voted Ryan Saxx and Paula Roca Lujan. “It feels great to be rookie of the year and to be on varsity. I loved how I got to make so many new friends this year,“ Roca Lujan said.

Information on What’s to Hold for the Distance Runners this Winter

Although this year’s Cross Country season is done, there is still the Track and Field season to come this spring. If you’re interested in joining the Track and Field team, then you’re welcome to join the winter practices throughout the following months. Keep your ears open around the school to find out when they start later.

Conclusion

Although it’s sad to see the season end, it gives us time to look forward to what’s to come for the following seasons. “This team has a great future and has much potential for years to come,” Conway said. And indeed they do.
