Oregon City High School’s drama department held the Musical ‘Mamma Mia’ for this year’s winter play, performing from November 20th to November 23rd, and again from December fourth to December seventh.
Students in the play have put many weeks of hard work and dedication towards the production, all while balancing their school lives along with the musical.
Mackenzie Garrow, an 11th grader in the musical said, “The most challenging part of being in the musical was the struggle of learning lyrics, and managing time between school.”
While viewers got to see the actors’ hard work come to life on stage, there were also hours of work put in from the stage crew behind the scenes.
Assistant stage manager Aubrey Lasha, who is an 11th grader at OCHS said, “We all ended up working really really hard and we ended up making a lot of progress on the set with no tech director.”
The crew is what makes the musical come to life, making everyone involved such an important aspect.
Lasha also said, “It was a really cool moment to see just how hard everyone was willing to work to put on a great show.”
The musical had a great turnout, seeing that many people came to watch and support. There was a lot of positive feedback from those who watched the play.
11th grade Melony Nelson said, “It was a great performance that really showed a great dynamic of the relationship between the characters,” after seeing the performance.
Many students who participated in the play enjoyed the overall fun aspects of the musical, the process of creating the play, and being a part of the performance.
11th grade lead, Brennen Nazaretta , who played Sky Rymand said, “My favorite part of the musical was having my first solo part! I also like how the show is lighthearted and something that everybody knows. People get excited knowing it’s Mamma Mia, which makes me excited!”
