“And yes, God bless even the mean girls” is from the song ‘Mean Girls’ by the global girl group titled Katseye. Katseye consists of six female members from across the world who had their debut on June 28, 2024, with Sophia Laforteza as the leader, Lara Raj as the main vocalist, Daniela Avazini as the main dancer, Megan Skiendiel as the all-rounder, Manon Bannerman as the visual, and Yoonchae as the maknae/youngest member. The group formed through a reality TV show, ‘Dream Academy’, a collaboration of Hybe and Geffen Records. After debuting, they released an album titled “Soft is Strong” (SIS) on August 16, 2024. A year later, they released a new second album called “Beautiful Chaos’’ on June 27, 2025.
I am an Eyekon (the name of Katseye’s fandom). The music Katseye produces and releases can really work for everyone. Elements from the lyrics to the choreography are breathtaking, and for a group that just recently debuted, they are already reaching spots on the Billboard top 100. Although their song “Gnarly” is the first song that fans felt uneasy about, due to the aggressive lyrics and choreography, I really enjoyed the sound and choreography; it gave me such a rush listening to it for the first time, feeling the strong and energetic production. Both of Kasteye’s albums contain music that is easy and pleasing to listen to. SIS is the album that Katseye debuted with, featuring songs that I really enjoyed and left me wanting more. The recent album “Beautiful Chaos” being released made me truly realize how versatile Katseye’s sound really is. “Gabriela” by Katseye falls under the genres of R&B and Latin Music, with its Latina member, Daniela Avazini, having her own solo due to her Latina heritage and native tongue, which is featured in the song. From bouncing back and forth from music genre to genre, I believe Katseye can really work for anyone.
Katseye is truly for everyone, ranging from hyper pop and hip-hop to R&B and Latin music. Songs like Touch, Mean Girls, Gameboy, and My Way are very soft spoken songs, while MIA, Gnarly, and Gabriela have a more energetic sound. I truly give Katseye a 10/10 for being the best global girl group, releasing music for anyone to enjoy, and choreography that is easy to follow and learn.
